Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information the Alakazam app ("App") and our websites at alakazamapp.com and luma.website (the "Website") collect, why, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. Alakazam is made by Luma ("we", "us", or "our"); who is responsible is set out at the end of this policy.

What We Collect and Why

• Account: the App creates an account for you identified only by a random ID. You do not sign in, and we do not ask for your name or email address. Used to provide the App.
• Website waitlist: if you sign up, your email address, signup time and signup source. Used to send you one email when Alakazam launches. You can leave the list at any time by emailing support@alakazamapp.com.
• Searches: the links you submit, when, the results we returned, which result you opened, and whether you told us a match was right. Used to run your searches, show your history, and measure how accurate we are.
• Subscription: your plan, whether it is a trial, whether it is active, when it renews, and the product and transaction IDs Apple gives us, plus a count of your searches in the current week. Used to give you what you paid for. We never see your payment details or your Apple ID.
• Notification token: if you allow notifications, a device token used to update the Live Activity on your Lock Screen when a search finishes. It is deleted when the search ends.
• Diagnostics: when something goes wrong, the error, your device model, iOS and App versions, and the steps leading up to it, linked to your account ID. Used to find and fix faults.
• Usage analytics: which screens you visit and how you use search, linked to your account ID, and a replay of your session in which video thumbnails and anything you type are masked on your device. On the Website, which pages you visit and a replay in which all text, images and typing are masked. Used to see where the App and Website are confusing and improve them.
• Feedback: your answers when we ask how the App is working for you, and anything you choose to write.

Sending diagnostics or analytics reveals your IP address to the provider that receives them, and an approximate location such as your city or country may be derived from it. We never send those providers the links you search.

To find the video a clip came from, we retrieve and analyze public information about the clip and about candidate videos: titles, descriptions, channel names, publication dates, transcripts and a few still frames. We do not download or keep the video or audio itself. This public information is cached for up to 30 days and is not linked to your account.

We do not use advertising identifiers, track you across other apps or websites, sell your personal information, or make decisions about you by purely automated means that have legal or similarly significant effects.

Legal Basis

Under the GDPR and UK GDPR, we rely on:

• Performance of a contract — to provide the App, run your searches, and manage your subscription.
• Legitimate interests — to fix faults, measure accuracy, improve the App, prevent abuse, and control what the service costs to run. You can object to this at any time.
• Consent — for notifications, given through the iOS permission prompt and withdrawn in iOS Settings; and for the launch email, given when you join the Website waitlist and withdrawn by contacting us.
• Legal obligation — to keep records the law requires and respond to valid legal requests.

Who We Share It With

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the App, under contracts that oblige them to protect it and use it only on our instructions. By purpose, they are:

• Hosting and storage — run our servers and database and store your account, search history and waitlist signup.
• Video search and analysis — find candidate videos and analyze their public details, transcripts and still frames. These providers receive the link and search terms, never your account information.
• Crash reporting — receive the diagnostics described above.
• Usage analytics — receive the usage data and masked session replays described above.
• Subscription management — read your subscription status from Apple.
• Apple — takes payments and delivers notifications. Apple's Privacy Policy

We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

International Transfers

Your account, search history, diagnostics and analytics are stored in the European Union. Some of the providers above are based outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Those transfers are covered by an adequacy decision or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

How Long We Keep It

• Account, searches and subscription record: until your account is deleted.
• Website waitlist signup: until we send the launch email or you ask us to remove it, whichever comes first.
• Cached public video information: less than 30 days.
• Diagnostics and analytics: deleted automatically after the providers' retention periods, which are shorter for session replays.

When an account is deleted, we keep a de-identified record of its searches (links, dates, whether a match was found) and of its subscription (plan and start date), no longer connected to you. We use the first to improve accuracy and keep the second for our accounts. Ask us and we will erase these as well.

Your Rights

You can ask us to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, to restrict how we use it, or object to how we use it. You can withdraw consent at any time without affecting what happened before. Email support@alakazamapp.com and we will respond within one month.

You can also complain to a data protection authority: ours is the Danish Data Protection Agency, Datatilsynet, or you can go to the authority where you live.

Deleting Your Account

Email us to have your account and its data permanently deleted. Include your account ID, found under Settings → Help & Support in the App; a message sent through Contact support includes it automatically. We delete the account within one month.

Video Creators

Our cache can hold public information about YouTube videos and channels that users have searched for, such as a channel name. If this relates to you and you want it removed, email us and we will delete it within one month.

Device Storage

The App stores your session and preferences on your device so it keeps the same account between launches. The Website sets no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Children

The App is not for children. You must be at least 13, or older if your country sets a higher age for consenting to online services. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

We will post changes here and update the date above. If a change materially affects your rights, we will also tell you in the App.
